Abstract
Toxoplamsa gondii, an obligate, intracellular organism, is now known to be a cosmoplitan parasite of man, producing an infection known as toxoplasmosis. It has an amazing lack of host specificity, being found in various primates, carnivores, rodents, birds, and domestic animals especially in swine. And although toxoplasmosis is one of the most ubiquitous infection of man. It is believed most patients infected with these organisms remain subclinical or a latent infection in children or adults, which usually can be recognized only by the presence of specific antibodies in their sera.
In addition, there is recent evidence of an association between Toxoplasma organisms and granulom¡©atous uveitis and chorioretinitis in adults. Soh et al. reported 5. 6% of positive result out 373 Koreaas by toxoplasmin skin test. Rim et al. Toxoplasma antibody titration by the method of hemagglutination test and overall positive rate obtained 18.6% of 199 serum samples.
Authors examined on the 100 sera from prostitutes(age: 20-30, 50-positive and 50-negative serum of STS). The sera were titrated by hemagglutination test using with "Eiken Toxo-test" reagents provided by Eiken Chemical Co. in Tokyo, and the following results were obtained.
1. For 50-positive serum of STS; 13 cases (26%) were positive, 8 cases(160) were doubtful, and 33 cases (66%) were negative for toxoplasma hemagglutination test respectively.
2. For 50-negative serum of STS; 11 cases(22%) were positive, 6 cases(12%) were doubtful,and 33
cases(66%) were negative for toxoplasma hemagglutination test respectively.
3. The overall positive rate was 24%, doubtful rate was 10%, and negative rate was 66% in 100 sera.
4. No different frequency distribution of toxoplasma hemagglutination titers were observed between positive and negative serum groups of STS.
